About SiteWiki — SiteWiki summary card
Summary card for the About SiteWiki article.

SiteWiki is an independent English-language reference on the Tor network, onion services and the history of darknet marketplaces. It is written in the encyclopedic style of Wikipedia and compiled from publicly available reporting, court documents and academic research.

Mission

The site exists to make factual, source-cited information on these topics easy to find. Many existing sources are either sensationalist news coverage or operational manuals promoting active criminal services. SiteWiki aims to sit between the two: a reference book rather than a textbook, and never a directory.

What SiteWiki is not

  • SiteWiki does not publish links to active marketplaces.
  • SiteWiki does not publish current .onion addresses.
  • SiteWiki does not include copy buttons, mirror lists, ratings “where to buy” or any material intended to help a reader purchase illegal goods.
  • SiteWiki does not sell advertising and has no commercial relationship with any of the subjects described in its articles.

Sources

Primary sources include press releases from the U.S. Department of Justice, Europol and the German Federal Criminal Police Office; indictments and court transcripts; peer-reviewed academic work (notably the Carnegie Mellon longitudinal measurement series); and the technical specifications maintained by the Tor Project. Every article carries a list of references at the end.

Corrections

If an article contains an error or an out-of-date statement, use the e-mail address on the privacy page to send a note. Corrections that are supported by a public source are reviewed and, if appropriate, applied.
